♦ Team Buick's (and other sources) casting number chart shows that your casting #1169334 is correct for 1956-1959 Buick 322 cubic inch engines. RE: Your engine's casting number (1169334) is not located where they say it should be found the 1954 Skylark engines did not have a suffix that read "100" the starting numbers for ALL (not each) Series was used only once per year.say for 1956, there was not a 146002 34, 146002 35, 146002 36, 146002 37.it was more like 146002 34, 146002 45, 146002 56, and 146002 67 and the list goes on.

♦ The same chart shows additional errors like: the 1957-1958 E.S.N. after 999,999 and a hyphen before all the suffix's.that might be the confusing issue to you and others. ♦ Buick Team's Engine Serial Number chart incorrectly states that there should be a "V" prefix before all E.S.Ns. The suffix denotes that your engine was in a Buick Century 60-series Model, like yours, when it rolled off the assembly line. ♦ It is in the correct format - no "V" prefix since the number is above 999,999 and no hyphen between the last "8" and the suffix "6". ♦ It falls within the sequential number range for your 1956 Buick. Number 1 being replaced with a letter I is not unusual. I'm guessing the serial number decoding it's from a book and not available online? The "V" prefix was eliminated after engine sequential #999,999.Įdited Januby 1953mack (see edit history) To identify what year and model Buick originally received the block, you need to look at a different chart. The Engine Serial Number 13546896 stated by the OP is a 1955 Buick engine number that was originally installed in a 60-Series Model. There could be other ways to note changes to the original casting numbers. The "X" as noted in Team Buick's chart, stands for a change to the original casting that is identified by a -1, -2, -3, etc.the higher the hyphened-number after the original casting number, the more changes were made to the original casting and would most likely be a later block (1954-1956?). There are differences between the first 1953 block and the last 1956 block. You can't go by the bogus information from Team Buick's chart that shows casting 1165165X = 1953-1956 blocks. You will not find a 1953-1956 block with an "X" after the casting number and worse yet, they do not explain what the "X" stands for. That's where all the ugly rumors start - better known today as alternative facts.Ĭasting 1165165 was an original casting number in 1953.
